Today's Musing
Resignation
I am hereby officially tendering my resignation as an adult. I have decided I would like to accept the responsibilities of a 6 year-old again.
I want to go to McDonald's and think that it's a four-star restaurant. I want to sail sticks across a fresh mud puddle and make a sidewalk with rocks. I want to think M&Ms are better than money because you can eat them. I want to lie under a big oak tree and run a lemonade stand with my friends on a hot summer's day.
I want to return to a time when life was simple, when all you knew were colors, multiplication tables, and nursery rhymes, but that didn't bother you, because you didn't know what you didn't know and you didn't care. All you knew was to be happy because you were blissfully unaware of all the things that should make you worried or upset.
I want to think the world is fair. That everyone is honest and good. I want to believe that anything is possible. I want to be oblivious to the complexities of life and be overly excited by the little things again.
I want to live simple again. I don't want my day to consist of computer crashes, mountains of paperwork, depressing news, how to survive more days in the month than there is money in the bank, doctor bills, gossip, illness, and loss of loved ones.
I want to believe in the power of smiles, hugs, a kind word, truth, justice, peace, dreams, the imagination, mankind, and making angels in the snow.
So . .. . here's my checkbook and my car keys, my credit cards and my 401K statements. I am officially resigning from adulthood. And if you want to discuss this further, you'll have to catch me first, cause...

For Lack of a Better Photo
Those of you who visit my blog might take notice of the weekly photo thumbnail change over there on the right. That thumbnail is an active link straight to my photoblog. Unfortunately I've not taken any photographs recently and therefore had little choice but to slap up any old photo found in my drafts folder. I may not write on a consistent basis here but one thing you can count on is the weekly photo change. I seem to have no problem doing that. Meanwhile back in the file folder, I sifted through the numerous flower and foliage shots and thought to myself, how boring. Instead, I opted for a photo that always leaves me chuckling each time I see it. Two fishheads with mouths agape looking shocked beyond comprehension is my idea of amusement.

Europe for the New Year
Though I'm not one to spend all that much time pondering the new year, (a typical New Year's Day for me is spending it in front of the television watching the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Day Concert), my friend Holger in Berlin has proposed a change of plans. If I can wing it (no pun intended) I'll spend my New Year in Europe. I did that once before, I think it was 5 years ago that I was in Berlin celebrating the New Year with my German friends. A bunch of us climbed up and onto an icy rooftop to watch the fireworks. I was in a dress and high heels, one hand holding a sparkler and the other tightly gripping the chimney so I didn't slide off. I had a great time, nevermind how very cold it was up there.
Holger suggested a European Christmas for me, and though the thought was lovely, the execution would be difficult due to family tradition and commitments. I proposed the week between Christmas and New Year's and will get working on it. Depending on others' schedules, I'm also thinking of travelling while I am there -- perhaps visiting a few neighboring countries I've not been to previously or lately. Travelling within Europe is relatively easy, so it would be silly of me to go all that way and not stop in and disrupt others' holidaze. :-) We'll see what I can pull off this time around, but I'm excited about the possibilities!

ANOTHER New iPod
Updated 10.13
One of the cool features of this new iPod is its video and TV show-viewing capabilities. In addition to purchasing music via the iTunes Music Store, now you can also purchase music videos, Pixar animations and some TV show episodes.
Apple comes out with new iPods as often as some folks change their underwear. Sheesh.
Witness the evolution of the revolution. First it played songs. Then photos. Then podcasts. Now iPod plays video, changing the way you experience your music and more. Again. In lighter, thinner 30GB and 60GB models starting at $299, the new iPod is music to your eyes. More details here.

Mixed Messages
Yesterday NYC Mayor Bloomberg, NYC Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly and the Assistant Director of the FBI that a terrorist attack on New York's subway system could be possible in the coming days.
Officials at different levels of government, however, questioned the credibility of the information. A Bush administration official told CNN the threat involved the use of explosives hidden in baby carriages. The official said he believes New York officials made the threat public "out of an abundance of caution." An official from the Department of Homeland Security told CNN that the agency has received intelligence regarding "a specific but not credible" threat to New York's subway system but intelligence officials believe the information is of "doubtful credibility."
I am sure that the Mayor, the Police Commissioner, and the Assistant Director of the FBI had solid information before alerting the public. One would think that when the FBI is involved the alert is indeed credible; however, the Department of Homeland Security's response illustrates the need for government officials to be on the same page. All should be in agreement instead of this alert/no alert, credible/not credible, specific/not credible mixed messaging that's being relayed.

Turn Down the Heat
I really want the temperature around these parts to drop. I've had enough of the 80s plus humidity and look forward to just a bit cold. I'd even settle for 60 degrees. I don't ask for much, do I.
