Bloggity Goodness
Now there's a perfectly dorky title for this entry. Shoot. I didn't know what else to call it. I'm not very good when it comes to thinking up titles for my brain dust. Sue me.
He never responded to my email so now I'm going to make him pay for it. A few weeks ago I actually spoke to my favorite mystery man Al of Fulton Chain on the telephone. Yes indeedy, we conversed, in real time, for the first time in, oh, how many years is it now Al? The THINGS we talked about - oh my! (Get your brains out of the gutter, y'all. It's not what you think.) Whodathunkit that we'd finally talk after all this time -- not me. I guess I managed to catch the ever-elusive one in a weak moment. It was cool though. Much better than leaving comments and typing emails that maybe get a response a few months after I send them. I'll never know how Mary (Al's significant other) puts up with him, but bless her. Al says she reads my blog, and if she does, I wish she'd leave a comment or three. Al, Mary should have a blog also... (I heard your response-- WHY!?) because she should... that's why! Unless, of course, she's just smarter than both of us and couldn't be bothered, which could very well be the case.
In other bloggers-I-know news, the Best European Blogger 2005 left me voice mail this past week. Trust me when I say she didn't sound like her usual self, but it's good that she's writing on her blog again. Hope things have gotten better for you Petunia. I'll check up on you via voice soon!
Kat of Kat's Stuff telephoned last night, thinking she'd gotten me up and out of bed (I wasn't asleep just yet -- but wide awake.) We have that one-hour time difference thing (Houston - NYC) that we both tend to forget. Anyway, we didn't speak until this morning but she let me know that she was alive and well and kickin', busy with packing up the house, visitors and parties, and soon to be in DMV hell (again.) Hopefully this time around the line at the DMV won't be too bad! And keep your fingers crossed that she ends up moving to Virginia and NOT to North Carolina.
Saving the best surprise for last, I'll be 20 pounds heavier soon thanks to Ted @ Rocket Jones who sent me a loaf of his homemade cinnamon bread. Evidently I was the 100K visitor to his blog and I won a loaf of homemade bread. (Of course each time he wrote about his homemade bread I'd leave an inordinate amount of drool in his comments.) The very fresh loaf arrived this morning from Virginia, and I must say that you'll be referring to me as porky pig pretty soon, unless I hand out slices of the delectably delicious bread to friends and family. Thanks again Ted! :-)
Now if Kat sent me some of her awesome home cooking from Texas, well hey. I'd just be in hog heaven, wouldn't I.

Needs a Caption
I took this photograph last week and had an overwhelming desire to share it, just to see what witty captions y'all could come up with.
Go ahead, give it a whirl. Amuse me. Make me laugh. You know you want to.

Doing a "Squipper"
Rob - at wordsimageslife has come up with a new phrase in a recent blog entry. In an attempt to explain how he stubbed his toe, he writes: "I pulled what I could only call a Squipper, when I did a job on my little toe just walking through the house."
Phrase:
Doing a Squipper
Definition: Any adult who experiences a stupid, self-inflicted mishap that results in slight injury
Rob, be happy that you don't:
- plummet down stairs at least once a year
- haven't walked into a building support
- smashed your face into a pane of glass while looking at a window display
Now THOSE things constitute "doing a Squipper." Please be more careful and stay out of my all-inclusive, one member only clumsy club. :-)

Atlantic Hurricane Season
NOAA's 2005 Atlantic hurricane season outlook indicates a 70% chance of an above-normal hurricane season, a 20% chance of a
near-normal season, and only a 10% chance of a below-normal season. This outlook is produced by scientists at the National Oceanic
and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) Climate Prediction Center (CPC), Hurricane Research Division (HRD), and National Hurricane
Center (NHC).
The outlook calls for 12-15 tropical storms, with 7-9 becoming hurricanes, and 3-5 of these becoming major hurricanes. The likely range of
ACE index is 120%-190% of the median. This prediction reflects a very likely continuation of above-normal activity that began in 1995.

Evil Disk
The photo printer I had crapped out on me a few weeks ago. I found out that refurbishing/repairing the printer was as costly as a new one, so I purchased a new machine.
Once the printer was out of the box and plugged in, it was time to install the printer software on my laptop. I inserted the disk into the drive and not a second later heard my laptop choking on the disk, whirring and whirring as I watched that damned Apple beachball (aka, progress indicator, which I've renamed the regress indicator) spin on my screen. Horrors! A bad disk! Damn that Hewlett-Packard! How do I get the disk out of the drive?
Lucky for me, I was able to access the HP web site and downloaded the latest printer driver while the evil disk whirred non-stop in my disk drive. I successfully installed the printer driver and an hour later, the disk drive finally stopped its horrific gagging and I was able to remove it from the drive. *sigh* Even though I tried to Force Quit the disk kept going, and going, and... surely there's an easy (?) way to purge a disk from one's G4, isn't there?

Points Elsewhere
It's been very busy lately and this past week was no different, but it included great things like meeting a new friend for a midtown breakfast. I was horrified a day or two later when I said to this same person, (in the context of accessing an mp3 file on their blog,) "I suck your bandwidth." I can't believe I said that.
Then there were the not-so-good things occuring around my neck o' the island I live on. Things like the sudden landslide/collapse of a retaining wall on the Henry Hudson Parkway and yesterday a fire right down the block from where I live. So... outside of that news, let's change the subject to something else. It's been awhile since I've mentioned some of the other folks who stop by here and I think now is as good a time as any. Here's a quickie roundup of what's going on elsewhere (since I love and am much more comfortable with talking about anyone but myself.)
Zoe @ My Boyfriend is a Twat writes that she's closing shop, but I know that she's just going through a difficult time right now. I suspect (okay, I hope) that this is a temporary thing and she'll end up leaping over the hurdle she is currently experiencing. She is one very talented and funny blog writer that I don't want to see disappear.
Al, my tech guru over at Fulton Chain shocked the daylights out of me today. It all had something to do with masturbation. (Note to y'all: no, it didn't. It just reads well, doesn't it. Got your attention, didn't I.) Don't miss Al's blog entry: Read Any Good Books Lately? I wish he'd write more. Really.
Kat, Southern belle at Kat's Stuff is busy packing up her home as she and the hubby and family are preparing for their move closer to me (final destination still up in the air?) Yay for me! You know it's all about me, of course.
Note to Oz over at G'day Mate... we're *almost* coming up on one year since we met in person here in NYC, but I've been following your blog and your comment spam nightmare. Yes I am truly guilty in that I've not been a good friend and have been remiss in leaving comments, but I'll have to try harder... or something. I'm still here, still reading your blog but just quiet I guess. Sorry!
A recommended must-read: I loved this recent blog post by Dave Pollard @ How to Save the World: The Whisper Campaign: Psst, You're Amazing (Pass It On). Read it. Do it. It's a great feeling!
One of my all-time favorite writers Nick @ taliesin's log recently shared this entry, secret heartbeats, that just left me unable to say anything more than "wow." I tend not to write about Nick simply because we seem to lock horns on occasion and that bothers me more than I care to admit. Regardless, he knows I'm a big fan of his, whether he's attacking a blog post or quote of mine... or not. Nick has this unbelievable ability to engage me and piss me off at the same time. I think it's love but GU (the informed know what the initials represent. If you don't know, ask me.) What do you think?
Okay that's enough for now. Of course there is more to add to this, but I've since moved on to food for thought. Soon it will be time for fine dining... and with that I bid you adieu. Until next time!

Reconnect With an Old Flame
For you men who have long neglected the significant other between your legs, it's time to reconnect and
improve your relationship! Other than the obvious sexual gratification and release, there are health benefits
too. The New Scientist reports that frequent sexual intercourse and masturbation protects men against a common
form of cancer. So don't delay, do it today!
(I assume that most men maintain a very happy, long-lasting and fulfilling relationship with their penises.)

Munchkin Memoir
"As coroner, I must aver
I thoroughly examined her
And she's not only merely dead
She's really, most sincerely dead!''
The munchkin coroner who made that familiar recitation in "The Wizard of Oz'' - a confirmation that the Wicked Witch of the East was killed - was played by Meinhardt Raabe.
The 4-foot-7 90-year-old Raabe has published a memoir about his adventures, including his time on the set of the 1939 film, which he says helped eliminate derogatory terms for little people.
The book, "Memories of a Munchkin: An Illustrated Walk Down the Yellow Brick Road,'' describes what it was like to be on the "Oz'' set - real trees rooted in the ground, mushroom-shaped Munchkinland houses supplemented with backgrounds painted on muslin and, of course, the yellow brick road. Raabe's tenacity and ability to speak German - a boon to a company that worked with German-speaking butchers - helped him get a job as an accountant with Oscar Mayer at age 23. He worked there for three decades, eventually traveling across the country with the famed Weinermobile and giving motivational speeches in schools. Raabe said appearing in the film didn't transform his life, but did increase his confidence and helped him build a career in public speaking. Raabe, who lives in a retirement community in Florida, said he decided to write the book in part to spread the message he's brought to schoolchildren as a public speaker: "There's a job for everybody. It's just a matter of you working hard enough and watching out for the right spot.'' - ABC News/AP

Time Warner Loses Employee Data
Media and entertainment company Time Warner said that computer backup tapes containing data on 600,000 individuals were lost by an outside data storage firm. The data were on current and former employees going back to 1986, as well as some of their dependents and beneficiaries. The Secret Service was investigating. - Wired News
Isn't that comforting news. The company was quick in pointing out that only the employee data was missing and not of its customers. That makes it less important, doesn't it.

Sirius Podcasting
Sirius Satellite Radio is latching onto the podcasting phenomenon, launching a show later this month that will feature a daily selection of the increasingly popular do-it-yourself audio programs. The show will begin broadcasting weekdays on May 13. It will be hosted by Adam Curry, the former MTV personality who helped create podcasting. Podcasts are less than a year old and include music and random musings on things like wine, pop culture, politics, hobbies and sports. - Wired News
