Winkie Should be Whacked
Winkie, an elephant with a reputation for being dangerous, killed a handler and injured a trainer at The Elephant Sanctuary in southern Tennessee. Winkie also hurt several staffers and visitors at its previous home in Wisconsin. It is obvious that Winkie has issues. Winkie doesn't play nice with other beings. I think it's time for Winkie to go to pachyderm heaven (or hell, where all elephants that behave badly should go.)

*gasp* Really? It's not Winkie's fault that she doesn't want to be trained. Maybe she's just tired of humans.

When animals kill humans and there's a history of previous attacks, then it would be best to either put the animal someplace where it has no interaction w/humans or put it to sleep.

Maybe Winkie just wants to go home.

Rob - maybe so, but Winkie needs to be kept away from human beings.

Winkie first killed a four-year old child Ruth Ann Feldman the summer of 1966. (Ruth Ann was in America visitng from Israel for the summer.) Winkie suffered for many years. Her feet were ruined by the concrete floors and her spirit was broken by the confined quarters of the Vilas Park Zoo. Winkie deserves to be left in peace with a minimum of human contact. We ruined her for her entertainment value. How utterly sad. Please let Winkie live in peace. Mary Dalton Howard

Mary, I would love to see Winkie relocated to an area where it receives the peace you wrote about; other than providing the elephant with food, etc., it would seem that the best course of action would be little/no human interaction.
