Blah, Blah, Blah

It's been awhile since my last confession and these are my sins...

SINS?!? I have none, I'm an angel. ;-)

Actually I was off photographing hummingbirds and believe it or not, I'd never seen one and had no clue they were so small. The hummingbird pursuit was inspired by a comment Kat of Kat's Stuff made here sometime last year. Anyhoo, I did what one needs to do when pursuing the little whizbangers (get a hummingbird feeder as well as a few plants with red flowers, as the little varmints are attracted to red) and managed to get a number of decent photos. I posted one in the sidebar that's in the Photo Gallery now.

Meanwhile back at the funny farm, I've been working on a redesign of this place for a number of weeks, returning to it whenever I had the opportunity to do so. Funny but yesterday it all worked seamlessly, and today it's a piece a crap, as I've somehow managed to forget how to align the individual archive page. Anyone who wants to chime in with a fix for it would be forever worshiped. Alright, you wouldn't exactly be worshiped but you'll forever remain in my good graces or something like that.

Other than the above, I know I have a gazillion and one things to write in this space but right this minute I need to take care of something else. Perhaps I'll return later with more riveting and awe-inspiring verbiage. :-)

Hi Ron! Oh, you noticed those eh? I pulled them from a photo I took of tulips. Does it look dorky?

Hi Cindy!
Glad to see you're back in one piece with your halo intact.

Send over some details and your requirements and I'll see if I can beat your archives back into alignment :)

Greg - thanks! Will do as soon as I can.

Meanwhile, doesn't anyone have ANYTHING to say about the redesign, or are y'all just being polite?

Looks nice - the logo is very fresh and simple. Very - should I say 'zen-like'. Three columns with the content on the right is a bit of an unusual format (usually the content is in the middle when you've got three columns), but this isn't criticism. If everybody did things just like everybody else, everybody's site would look just like everybody else's.

I couldn't figure out what problems you might have had on the archive page - it looks fine to me. But maybe you already fixed something, or maybe I just don't know what's missing.

Mike - I have a tendency to go in the opposite direction of what everyone else does. I've never been a 'follow the herd' type and try to avoid (at least with this blog) cookie-cutter layouts. I've had a 3-column layout before and yes, content was smack dab in the middle of two columns. Been there, done that, got the t-shirt :-)

Right now I'm looking at the main index page and thinking it's too wide plus it doesn't offer complete resizing/float left of the 3 columns. (I did tweak the archives page though it's still not centered.)

So -- that's my thinking for now.

I have to scroll side to side to see the whole thing, but then again I'm one of those people who refuse to set my resolution higher. ;o)

I can't believe you got such a good pic of a hummingbird. Great detail and everything. Cute little buggers, aren't they?

Once upon a time in Houston the hubby and I were sitting out back having drinks. I thought I saw a cockroach out of the corner of my eye but it was a curious hummingbird. Good thing I didn't swat at it.

The resizing seems to be limited by the properties of 'container'. The 3 columns are fixed fractional percentages of the container width (875 pixels). Therefore their width is never going to change. If you want the page to resize, you probably have to dump container->width (and auto-margins) and add some padding on the container to give you the white border back.
