Friday Feathers

I have an online photo gallery that I use as a depository for my photographs. The gallery is usually updated once a week with the most recent photo reflected here in the sidebar. Every so often I'll add a group of photos to the gallery, such as the collection of photos I took in Colorado or the photos taken during a visit to the Steamtown Historical Site in Pennsylvania.

However, there are many photographs that just don't see the light of day in the gallery unless they become a collection. I try to mix them up when it's time for a new photo; you won't see consecutive photos of flowers, animals or places I've visited. My latest photographic pursuit is birds, and I've accumulated a number of photos that have yet to be added as a collection. So... I thought I'd feature photos of birds in this space on Fridays, starting today.

When I spotted this particular bird in my mother's yard, at first I thought it was a cardinal (the ever-elusive one I've yet to get a good photo of) but soon realized it wasn't. What caught my eye was the red head.

When I returned to ye olde homestead and ported the photos from camera to laptop, a quick look at my reference book on birds found that this particular bird is a finch. At least I think it is. Anyway, what amuses me about this photo is the white long-johns this bird has on its legs. ;-)

As usual the photo is fantastic. I'm no help with bird identification because I've never seen a bird even remotely like that.

The state bird here is the cardinal, but I just don't see that many of 'em. Some, but not lots. You'd think since they're the state bird there would be lots.

It's obviously the elusive 'danielus bonaduceious'.

You know what "bonkers for birds" means in English, don't you?
You're full of surprises...

Nicholas - leave it to you to take a perfectly harmless statement and kill it in one fell swoop. Now darling, don't play dumb; you know that my preference is men. I've not suddenly leapt over to the other side. As you WELL know (and I feel I have to EXPLAIN myself here) 'bonkers for birds' meant the feathered kind that fly in the air and poop on your head and coo on your windowsill, not 'birds' = 'women' as in English slang. Regardless, I edited that line out. Pfft.

Al - cute. Real cute.

Kat - thanks. I can't believe you've not seen many cardinals; then again, maybe that's why it's the State bird, because of its elusiveness.

I go away for a few days to grow old and decrepit and when I come back everything is pea green. Or it is yellow? Oh well, change is good.

Nice picture. I also like the gypsy wagon. Was that in Germany? Somehow I can't quite picture running into a gypsy wagon on the New Jersey Turnpike, but then again I've seen stranger stuff in Berkeley, so who can say?

Mike - I thought it was more like a mustard color...
as for the wagon, the photo was taken in Ireland.
p.s. HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY!

Joost - thanks!
