Knock Knock Knock

Last month I posted some photos of the Pileated Woodpecker I spotted one morning. A week or so after, I encountered the PW again, only this time it was in the middle of excavation.

Hmm... so far so good!

The photograph below is my favorite. It's as if there's an entire crew in the hole moving furniture around. I imagine the woodpecker telling the crew, "now move the sofa over to the left side...." :-)

Great shots-especially with the chips flying! I've heard one out in the woods where he's had to go since they cut down almost all of the old big trees out in front.

We've got one in the woods behind the house. Sounds like a mini-jackhammer out there at times.

Nature's own jack hammer. Beautiful shots by the way. We don't get them here in the city very often but when one hears them, you certainly know what you've got.
