A Nerd in a Pretty Dress
A few weeks ago I ran into someone who had been in my class in high school. In those days I was busy playing all sorts of sports, and he was usually in a bit of a drug-induced stupor. Needless to say, we didn't have much in common nor did we chat at all. All we knew about each other was, well, nothing. It was an absolute surprise to me when I ran into him one day, one of those weird, freakish things that tend to occur in my life. We chatted about a number of different things, and somehow the topic of the Web came up (gee, what a surprise.) Anyway, he said something to me about not knowing HTML all that well. When I told him I did, that I could sling the HTML and that I've maintained a presence on the Web since 1993, he exclaimed, "Oh my GOD! You're a NERD!!!"
... and then...
I blushed with pride. I actually *LOVED* being called a nerd. Go figure.

but was he balding and fat? ;) and isn't nerd passe' now,

Steve - no, he was far from balding and fat. And if nerd is passe', oh well. 'Geek' would have been better.
I'd _never_ say I'm a blogger. Since I published my writing on the Web long before that term ever existed, I can't/don't relate. I know you know what I mean; you've been following my writing here for all those years!

Ha ha. I called Tazzy a 'nerd' the other day, and only because I had taught him something new (he's a bit slow on the uptake, sometimes. But being so gorgeous more than makes up for his slowness).
I too think being called a nerd is a bit of a compliment. If only because the rest of them will be doing the same thing a few years down the road.
I prefer to think of us as 'groundbreakers'.

Actually, geek sounds better...

I like the term geek better myself.

I take nerd or geek with equal aplomb. It's just a label, but it's a fun one, in my eyes.

yuse ahll soo funny! Mr. Tan raugh into his rice powerd raptop. Oops...water make it run at 54,000mhz. Proper etiquette is a nerd turns into a geek, geek turns into dork. Mr. Tan is master dork.

Mr. Tan: I fixed your spelling errors. >8-)
Paul: see my remark to Kat below.
Kat: Agreed, but nerd works too, just like Paul said (thanks Paul!)
Oz: You're too kind and yes, geek does sound better.
P&T: yes, we're most certainly 'groundbreakers' ! Whose ground we're breaking is another story entirely. :-)
