Time Warner Loses Employee Data
Media and entertainment company Time Warner said that computer backup tapes containing data on 600,000 individuals were lost by an outside data storage firm. The data were on current and former employees going back to 1986, as well as some of their dependents and beneficiaries. The Secret Service was investigating. - Wired News
Isn't that comforting news. The company was quick in pointing out that only the employee data was missing and not of its customers. That makes it less important, doesn't it.

Since they put it that way it would also mean that they're sure none of their former or current employees are customers too. That's not a good sign, is it?

It just tells you not to put all your eggs in one basket... if they had a good backup, they would have had a backup of the backup or at lest one that would have had 95% of all the data... Otherwise the IT manager or CTO should get the sack! (fired)

Kat - nope.
Andy - first, welcome!
Second, I'm sure you meant for TW not to put its eggs in one basket. The company's failure to take proper steps to ensure the safety of employee information is an outrage. As a former employee, I am extremely concerned about where that data disappeared to and in whose hands.
