Browsers - Part II
In my last entry I asked you which browser you used. I was curious, simply because I think it's so important for folks to stop using Internet Explorer. In the April issue of Popular Science, (in an article about Spam and Punishment,) Pop Sci columnist Cory Doctorow writes:
... the best thing you can do to protect yourself from this scourge is to just get away from Microsoft products. The safest route is to switch to a Mac or GNU/Linux OS, but if that's too drastic, at least stop using Outlook and Explorer with Windows. Instead try Thunderbird and Firefox, an e-mail client and browser from the nonprofit Mozilla Foundation, which exists solely to oversee the production and distribution of these free and rock-solid programs. Both are safe against virtually all cyber attacks, are updated almost immediately when new threats are discovered, and are available for Windows, Linux and Mac OS X.
I should have been more specific with my inquiry and asked about your operating system also. Point is, I know a few people who still use Internet Explorer and highly recommend that they ditch it in favor of Firefox. (And yes Al, I'll go take a look at the logs and report my findings back here.)
Update
As promised, I reviewed the log files and here are my findings -- the majority of those who visit here use Mozilla, followed by Internet Explorer, Netscape and Safari. 84 percent of you use Windows, 12 percent MacOS and 4 percent Linux.

Unfortunately, Mozilla does not make Firefox for my OS 9 Mac. And I haven't had the money to upgrade to OS X. So, yes, sadly, IE man here...

Did your stats tell you *which* version of MacOS they are using?

I have to say, I just downloaded Firefox and will be installing it tomorrow. Good riddance (shit, I don't think I spelt that right) to Windows Explorer, frankly. I'm sure your shocked, Cindy.

Bruno, I know there are alternatives to using IE even if you're not yet using X. How about Netscape? I think it's at least better than IE.
k - I've not used Thunderbird but know other folks who do and have had no problems.
Oz - Unfortunately, no. The stats did not reflect which versions (I've a less-than-ideal stats package provided by my hosting co.)
Kenster J - You've done a wonderful thing for yourself and it's terrific that you've made the change!
