H is for... headphones.

With a brand-spanking-new audio program to edit, I had my hands full when it came to editing the 96 hours and 5 minutes of audio. Okay, that's a bit of an exaggeration. It actually amounted to around 50 minutes of raw audio, and with Ken back on the left coast, I was left with the responsibility (horrors!) of editing. Let me tell you, this was a neat trick. (not!)

Wearing headphones for a very long time became annoying. I couldn't understand why my ears and sides of my head hurt. (Notice where the theme of the letter "H" is coming from here -- 'having' 'headphones' 'head' 'hurt' 'here' ... I digress.) Unfortunately, the only headphones I could use were from my iPod... even though I have a fabulous, comfy pair of Sony Dynamic stereo headphones (MDR-V500 DJ) -- which would have made the editing task much more pleasant -- the Sony set doesn't plug into my G4 laptop. I don't know if there's an adapter available where I could actually make use of the Sony headphones. If you know of such a thing, do let me know. I'd be in Heaven. :-)

cindy..are you talking about the plug being too big to fit? i have sony mdr-cd580's and the base plug is a mini-plug which I can plug into any portable cd player as well as my puter's headphone jack. it also came with an adapter which screws onto the base plug and allows me to use the headphones with my super duper regular stereo system. apple didnt go all proprietary with their headphone jacks too, did they?

and by the way, im not ignoring your email about podcasting (thank you)....i just havent formed my thoughts yet about it however i will do so soon, ok? thanks!!

goto your happy radio shack/electronic store and get a 1/4 to 1/8" headphone jack (female to male) and have fun with your headphones.

Greg - I'm talking full-size stereo receiver headphones -- aka, yes, the plug too big to fit into the laptop. The plug attached to the headphones works (as it should) with the receiver. There is indeed a headphone jack on the laptop, but for a considerably smaller jack (like for ipod ear buds or those for a portable CD player.)

And yes, am patiently awaiting word from you about the Jezebel Diary music... :-)

M - thanks for those pearls of wisdom. I'll take the headphones with me when I go to Radio Shack and see what the store coughs up that might work.
