No Additional Bang for the Bean
According to this article in Slate, the cost of becoming one with the Starbucks bean will increase by an average of 11 cents. You'll pay more due to sharp increases in the costs of sugar and coffee, but there won't be an increase in the amount of bean juice. (I'll just assume the 'bucks' in Starbucks stands for $$$$ dollar signs.)
A Starbucks grande contains 550 mgs of caffeine, which is more caffeine than one NoDoz or one Vivarin (each only 200 mgs caffeine.) I do not Starbuck. I'm not one with their bean but have many friends who worship the place. I think 11 cents more is a ripoff. There's no increase in the amount of caffeine, so I ask you - is this an outrage or not?
Just curious. :-)

It's business. And their coffee rocks and I won't mind paying an extra 11 cents for it. Not surprised by the 'high?' caffeine number. Do you know what the average is for other coffee chains or something like Folger's?

I've been in one starbucks, and I ordered a small coffee. Big deal, it's coffee. I'm just amazed that people pay their prices for it.

I'm not all into the whole coffee thing. I like my morning cup but that's about it. Oldest daughter is all off into it, though. For that price I think they should serve them to you naked.

Rob - Yes of course it's business ... I have no idea what the average is for other chains or brands of coffee, though the chart I linked to is quite interesting.
Ted - yup. Same here.
Kat - that's not a bad idea, but there are some folks out there that you just don't want to see naked.

Maybe it's time for Starbucks lovers to demand something more in return, like a pledge from Starbucks to use only Fair Trade, Shade Grown (and ideally, organic) coffee. I don't mind paying if I know the coffee growers and the environment are getting a fair shake.

Actually I liked Starbucks coz in the US it has wireless access. Here in Oz it doesn't and the coffee is even dearer (allowing for currency conversion).
Get a coffee machine and make your own...
Of course it is easy for me to say that - I have my own brand of coffee... :-)

I loathe Starbucks. Tasteless, bland and way, way too hot (which burns the bean and reduces the flavour).
But I lurve my coffee.

They were already too high, in my opinion. Makes me thankful I don't drink coffee. ;)

I don't drink coffee, and the last time I was at starbucks was 3 years ago, maybe longer. So no, no affect at all with me.

Cindy, are you saying that sometimes no nudes is good nudes?
Brain matter deposited by: Kat on October 8, 2004 11:16 AM
Kat - er, yes.
Paul - You're not missing anything.
Tiger - agreed.
Tom - yup. Same here.
Oz - My bad! I forgot to tell you that indeed, the Oz coffee was a huge hit -- my friends went nuts over it and loved it. Needless to say the supply didn't last very long!
Dave - Welcome! I think that's a terrific idea. Were I a Starbucks type, I too wouldn't mind the cost if the company made such a pledge.
