It's All About Them
"With one small gesture you can change a person's life, for better or for worse. We are all in each other's lives to impact one another in some way. Look for the good in others." - via The Gray Monk
This recent post, reiterating the full text of an email chain letter about friendship, had me pondering my own interaction with others. One day a long time ago, I was feeling quite content in my life and very thankful for all the good things that were going on. That day, that moment, I decided to do one small thing every single day to brighten up the life of someone else, be it someone I knew or a total stranger.
It doesn't cost anything to put on smile on someone else's face. It isn't time-consuming nor is it self-serving. When you do unto others as you would have them do unto you, you can't help but feel good knowing you did your best to brighten up someone else's day.

That story always catches me at the back of the throat, even if it is a bit schmalzy. If just 0.1% of the population took it to heart and acted upon it once, what a difference it would make. Thanks Cindy.

Field of Dreams was not filmed in Dubuque.

I don't know that I've made a conscious effort to do something nice for someone every day. I try to be pleasant for the most part.
What I'm acutely aware of, though, is that I can really be a phenomenal bitch with no effort whatsoever. I'm really trying to watch that.

I used to think that until my current troubles, there are some people who you smile at, that will ask you "What the hell are you smiling at?" or better yet, will try to make sure you don't ever smile again.

Magadala - thanks for your comment. The notation I made regarding the movie "Field of Dreams" comes directly from the information listed on the Dubuque, Iowa Chamber of Commerce Web site. You might want to stop by their Web site and tell them.

Thanks for the link - I agree that if we all just took a little more care about others, it would make a huge difference.

blossom, i hope that the mere fact that it took me half a sodding hour today to fold up one of those post-pacs to put your waffles in, which could have been done in 3 minutes by any normal 5 year old puts a smile on your face.
and the damn box is too small.

Zoe, you're such a lovely gal that I truly hope you find a larger box next Monday :-)
Joanie, thanks :-)
Oz, aw shucks, you older brother you :-)
Pat, it was my pleasure. Your post was the inspiration for mine.
Paul, that happens frequently in NYC. I seek out the old folks before I slap a smile on and look them in the eyes. They don't scare easily.
Daisy, you're quite welcome!
