RSS Direct
It would be great if we could completely bypass building and maintaining a blog and post directly as an RSS feed. I wonder if that's technically possible, or if it will be in the future. Maybe it's already being done (and I've not caught up yet) or it's just a wacky thought... *shrug*

Of course it's possible. An RSS feed is nothing more than another file on the server. All you would need to do is recode your interface to save your writing directly to the XML file, and there you go.
No blog, no nothing. Pure XML for the feedreaders.

I'm a technical dumbass. Not only did I not understand the post, I didn't understand Casey's response either.
I can make a hell of a pot roast, though.

I expect this would be pretty easy with MT and probably wouldn't involve much more than publishing your index template with the right extension and the tags from your syndication template of choice.
But, I think it's a crappy idea. I have server-based aggregators, desktop aggregators and web-based aggregators. I have so many aggregators I need to syndicate a feed listing my aggregators so I can keep track of them. But, you know what? I find myself reading weblogs on the web. I like the context provided by the layouts and think that it is a much more accurate reflection of the individual than a few lines in a feedreader.
Don't drink the Kool-Aid. It's bad for you.

Well aren't you just the aggregator slut. ;-)
If my blog is a reflection of me, well shit, I'm in trouble.
I think you're the one who should lay off the Kool-aid, kiddo.
Did you have a bad day?

From what I have seen of aggregators, which I forego because I don't get to see all the pretty templates, is that they are too similar to individualized newsgroup listings.

My link in the preceding post is incorrect.

I see what you mean but I too would miss the "visiting", the commenting, the community. Do I not get the geek badge again this week? Darn.

Hey - I supply both an RSS content feed and an RSS comment feed. If you want to cruise along reading just the feeds, feel free :-)
Now if only I could trigger the page counter every time someone reads an RSS feed .....

Well ... you're right Daisy. I'd miss reading comments also ... though I'm not exactly overflowing with them on my blog.
Oz, I read you not only via my feed but also blog-direct.
Tiger - true.
Al - answered yours already.
Kat - you're not a dumbass. Your blog has an RSS feed which I read also.
Casey - thank you for the tech explanation that it's doable.

Yes, but the only reason it does is because blogger had a message that said, "Hey! Do this! Copy and paste that!" so I said, "Okay."
That's the extent of my knowledge on that.

My company makes a product that generates RSS, Atom feeds and OPML directories. It's not blogging software, it just cranks out the feeds. Maybe that would work for ya?
