Ye Olde Press Clippings
Here's a portion of a page I pulled from the Internet Archive, which reflects the two sites I had in the early 90s. Off the Beaten Path and Squipper.com.

The logo for Off the Beaten Path looked like this, utilizing a pair of lips :-)

The press mentions below are for Off the Beaten Path. Back then, this is what the splash page and table of contents looked like. The quality of the image is poor as it's a scan of the newspaper article.
Reno Gazette-Journal: October 2, 1995
"Babes on the Web provides the service of linking to Web pages created by women. As the page began, it has become the source on the Internet for people to discover the wonderful HTML creations of women from around the world."
The "Babes on the Web site author crowned me "Ms. Babe-O-Rama" -- and what was supposed to be a one-month crowning lasted for three months - August, September and October. This crowning glory caused my ISP to throttle my Web site, as it was generating 20,000 accesses per day. Contrary to what some folks expected, the photograph of me included on that site was of my face and not a photo of me in a bikini. :-)
THE NET: March, 1996
A writeup in the "Vanity" listing of this magazine.
info: a Greek Newspaper: March, 1996
With an interview conducted via email, I never expected to appear in its pages as the "centerfold" with a two-page article about me.
(Note: the photograph featured was taken on a subway in NYC.)
USA Today: October 17, 1996
The most surprising nod came in the form of my Nice Girl story being
acclaimed by USA Today. The review went something
like "find out what a self-described nice girl does on the Net." It also appeared on the Web site.
Interactive Week: Hyperspace - December 9, 1996
Top Ten Vanity Site. My site garnered number six on the list, which isn't bad, considering the number of other personal
Web sites they could have chosen. Not bad for a chick, eh? (Click on the image to enlarge.)
The Houston Chronicle: November 3, 1996
The Houston Chronicle print edition pointed Web surfers in the direction of my site.

Cindy C. describes herself as "a writer who doesn't write." But perhaps if she spent more time writing and less time learning fancy Netscape tricks, she'd be more productive. We're just kidding, Cindy. Your personal page is a prime example of deliciously pointless Web eye-and-head candy. Cindy falls firmly within the emerging "personal page" genre, in that her page is primarily dedicated to herself and her various musings about things that go on in her life. But she writes brightly and with a fun sense of humor -- and she sure decks out her page with pro-quality graphic design. One of the more enjoyable ego-trips out there.
The Houston Chronicle online: October 28, 1996
The Technology Editor for the Chronicle wrote:
New York, New York -- Cynthia C. is a single woman with a career in one of the most frantic of modern industries --
commercial Web site design -- in the most frantic of modern metropolises, New York. Nevertheless, she still finds time to
craft Off the Beaten Path, one of the most enjoyable home pages on the Internet, at www.interport.net/~dolphin.
She is an engaging writer who spins insightful tales of urban life. Check out her Lip Service -- a nearly daily diary -- or her
story about haggling over a cow's skull in a Southwestern market. She also slings some mean HTML -- if you're designing
your own home page, you should pay a visit to hers for some lessons in how it's done.
Cool Apples - October 24, 1996
- from the Internet Archive:
My site was the feature on An Apple a Day, created
in Singapore. An Apple a Day was a daily showcase of Apple and Macintosh
technologies and web pages.
USA Today: Hot Site: October 4, 1996
The most surprising nod came in the form of my Nice Girl story being acclaimed by USA Today. The review went
something like "find out what a self-described nice girl does on the Net."

... a S.H.A.G., that is. Your page has been linked because of extraordinary content and superior artistic layout. You are what we, the Geeks of House Allgood, call a "Bohemian Geek". We pay tribute to the members of our race who take the time to present Web-press in an above standard manner. One of our members is willing to bet that you either own or want to own an espresso machine.
We hope that you are honored. (At the very least we hope that you are amused.)

Site: Off the Beaten Path
Cindy C's wickedly sharp and amusing page offers everything from links to pages by
and about women and feminism to samples of original semi-fiction writings and
meditations by the site's producer and her friends. Most interesting, however, is the
feeling that you are visiting the electronic home of a good (and talented) friend who
probably spends too much time interfacing with her computer. Women and all Web
newcomers will take heart from the summary of Cindy C's experiences accessing the
Internet for the first time. Whether for its diverse content or excellent design and feel,
this is a page for all creatively offbeat individuals and writers.

iGuide: February, 1996
"For a synaptic romp through the days and nights, the thoughts and fantasies of one wickedly,
intriguingly off-beat woman, run, don't walk, to "Off the Beaten Path." You'll feel like you've
been let in on someone else's private joke, even if you don't understand them all, it's okay.
By the time you've finished your journey, whether you like her or not, this "WebMs." is someone
you sure as hell want to get to know. It's an ever-changing site, so be sure to stop by often.
Pick and choose from the offerings here but don't leave without a peek at her "Stellar Sites" list.
Far from the usual hot list, this collection represents some of the most unusual and spectactular
sites on the Net."
"Site developers will steal the opening page code from "Off the Beaten Path," casual visitors will just be impressed. There's no goal to be reached at this site, just a fascinating journey. Just don't miss the "Stellar Sites" section because if SHE thinks they're good, you better believe it, they are!"

Babes on the Web: August - October 1995
Yes, it's true. I was crowned Miss Babe-O-Rama on the BABES ON THE WEB site for August, September, and most of October in 1995.
So ... that's the history. I do all this ... why? I suppose it's because it will never leave my bloodstream, and besides, I always enjoy a good challenge.
See ya 'round cyberspace. ;-)
